| One of the many wine presses found on the
south bank of Lake Mariut. They belonged to the
wine growing villas that began to develop in the
Ptolemaic period and expanded rapidly in Roman
times. They produced a well-known wine, which
was praised by such famous poets as Virgil and
Horace. |
