JE 36578 Cairo Antiquities Museum

Material: Alabaster
Size: Height 98 cm; Width 30 cm
Location: Karnak
Period: Late 25th or Early 26th Dynasty (7th Century BC)

During the Late Period, and especially between the25th and 26th Dynasties, there was a tendency in Egyptian art to fall back on the past. Hence, this is somewhat of an archaic pose of a Late Period Scribe, who also wears clothing styles and a wig type that date back to the Old Kingdom.
