Loculus at Gabbari

Photographer:

Stephane Compoint
Title:
Loculus at Gabbari
Description:

Loculi are burial niches hollowed out of the walls. In each loculus at Gabbari, at least one skeleton has been found. Most of them were reopened and the first occupant pushed aside to make way for another corpse. In the loculus seen here, on the right of the latest arrival, three skulls of previous occupants can be seen. Up to ten skeletons have been counted in one loculus.
