A Little About My Latest
Trip to Egypt
It was a splendid trip. As many Tour Egypt
readers know, I have just returned from an Egyptian tour
which I took with my wife and 13 year old son. Actually, I
should point out that while my wife and child were touring,
I was often working, though I did go out with them on a few
occasions. Regardless, the evenings were wonderful, many
spent with old, good friends, as well as a few new ones.
I must admit that a little patience is in
order when traveling with a young teenager. It helps to have
a similarly aged child traveling along, which we did. But as
much as I would have liked Taylor to see everything, I also
must admit that an occasional sleep in was also in order.
How a child reacts to Egypt is probably due to some extent
to their interest in the subject, but for many families, the
children will not exactly be Egypt enthusiasts, though most
will have some interest. Therefore, we found days where it
was best to let him sleep in and go swimming instead of
trekking around the monuments. It mixed fairly well, and in
the end, he had a grand time, though handy internet cafe's
played a big role in his acceptance of Egypt.
My wife surprised me. Though I think
anyone would enjoy a trip to Egypt, prior to this, she was
by no means an Egyptian enthusiast. Many people I speak to
plan and dream of a trip to Egypt for years, so it is not
surprising to find them even more enthralled with the trip
once home. But it did surprise me when Joanie admitted to
being depressed about leaving Egypt. Always one to miss her
home, and never that much of a traveler, Egypt seems to have
taken to her, and her to Egypt. She made some great friends,
and discovered the amazing hospitality of this grand
country.
Current Safety in Egypt
We toured Egypt with travel writers,
travel agents and others, most of whom had never been to
Egypt. A number of them expressed some apprehension about
coming to Egypt, but that all changed quickly. In fact, a
number of our travelers were very impressed with the
hospitality with which we were given, as well as the
welcoming attitude of the people. I believe that each and
every one returned with a new opinion of Egypt and its
people, and many with a longing to return as soon as
possible.
