The St. Joseph Hotel
Luxor, Egypt

by Jimmy Dunn

View from the St. Joseph Hotel

We have long heard of the St. Joseph's Hotel in Luxor as a good possibility for budget accommodations. Now we can advise that the rumors are true. Located just off the Nile in a nice part of Luxor (near several five star hotels), this three star gem has 75 clean rooms at very reasonable prices. All rooms overlook the Nile, and have private baths, air conditioning, telephones, and satellite Television. It is one of the only hotels that has true triples with plenty of room.

Sometimes, management makes all the difference in a smaller hotel such as this, and undoubtedly the friendly, experienced staff clearly shows. The restaurant that seats 120 people is excellent, with good buffet style food. And I truly appreciated the quaint, small bar that really has the atmosphere of an old English pub.

There is also the traditional roof garden, complete with a reasonably sized swimming pool and a grand view of Luxor, the Nile and the west bank. The lobby is also comfortable, and includes several small stores, while internet cafes, restaurants and other shopping is very near.

Finally, it must be noted that we have had many guests of the hotel write us with their recommendations. This hotel has garnered considerable loyalty among budget travelers and one will be hard pressed to find the amenities and comfort elsewhere for their room prices.
