I find it very stranger that they had no marriage ceremony. When you think of all the tomb paintings showing scenes of every day life it seems odd that we never see a wedding. Most cultures do have some kind of ceremony. However the degree of autonomy of the Egyptian woman had was way ahead of its time and certainly loads better than other Ancient cultures e.g the Romans

I have study Egypt history since 20 years ago. (During my childwood)
Egypt is one of the most desire place to visit in my life. (Hope that this dreams will come thought)
I like to read & know more about Egypt histories.

I am doing a project on women in ancient egypt and this site really helped!
Im so glad at least ONE ancient civilization treated their women decently!!

I found this information very interesting as i had studied the Egyptians but realised we had never covered marriage. I was rather shocked to read that they could actually get divorced and that it seems a lot simple and quicker then the modern day divorce.

Well anyway, i really enjoyed this particular peice of writting than the other on -ancient egyptian love- (GREAT JOB) than any other…i lovve to study the history on Ancient Egypt. Hopefully one day i can pursue a Dream as an egyptolgist or somethingg….Anyway…if u have time email me…anythingg new or interesting on Egypt. Hopefully one day i can have the privelege to go to Cario, Egypt. Then vist the Nile…Giza pyramids….and other fascinating site.

I think that the polygamy wasn’t usual to common people because they just couldn’t sustain more than
one wife. Common men had to work hard those days, in the fields!!!!
