I was in Cairo last October 2005. I visited Ibn Tulun Mosque: I agree with you about the amazing
atmosphere surrounding the place. Unfortunately I didn’t know about the existence of Gayers-An
derson Museum even if it was only few meters far from the Mosque. I hope I’ll have another opportunity to visit Egypt. In Italy we say:”There isn’t two without three” and this time was my second one.
I’d like to see the picture of Queen Nefertiti statue kept inside the Museum.
Thank you,
Annalisa from Italy

We have the same old saying in Egypt that says. El Talta Tabta which means the third time is a must:)

Thanks for a superb article and photos!!
Perhaps you could add the museum opening hours as every time I have attempted to visit, it is closed!

I have just come back from a visit to the Little Hall, in Lavenham, Suffolk, England, which was purchased by Robert and his twin brother Thomas in 1924. He renovated and brought the house back to it’s original 14th century condition and whilst there, I observed many items from the Gayer-Anderson collection and was also amazed at the Oriental influences he put inside. What I found astonishing was that we could walk through the house as if we had been taken back in time, just like your visit to Egypt. I have never been to Egypt although I know now that the first place I will go will be to the museum, I was drawn to follow up info on the net since my visit to Lavenham and no doubt it has started a magical journey for me.
