'Fan Bearer at the King's Right Hand', Maya was one of the influential nobles of Amenhotep IV-Akhenaten's court and a proponent of the cult of Atenism. He was rewarded with a tomb at Akhetaten, though its decoration was never finished.

It is likely that this Maya went on the occupy an important place in the court of King Horemheb. He was King's Scribe, Overseer of the Treasury, Overseer of Works in the Place of Eternity and leader of the festival of Amun in Karnak. He was given the responsibility of restoring the burial of King Thutmose IV. He is mentioned in an inscription of the eighth year of Horemheb's reign with his assistant, Djehutymose. Maya was the son of 'the noble Iawy' and 'the lady of the house Weret'. He was buried at Memphis.
