SabuFifth & Sixth Dynasty
Two important people, both named Sabu, were officials
of the 5th
and 6th
dynasties, and served Wenis
(2356-2323 B.C.) and Teti
(2323-2291 B.C.) respectively. Ibebi Sabu began his
career in service to Wenis and the became the high riest
of Ptah at Memphis when Teti founded the new royal line.
His mastaba at Saqqara contains the details of the king's
coronation rituals. Thety Sabu, who was the son of Ibebi,
inherited his father's role as high priest of Ptah and he
conducted his affairs so flawlessly that it was decided
that he did not need a co-priest to manage the god's
estates and ceremonies. Before Thety's term of office,
the role of high priest had been shared by two men. Thety
Sabu had the story of his life and honors placed on the
false door of his tomb at Saqqara. The door is now in the
Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
