Titianus
Roman Emperors
Titianus was a prefect of Egypt who said in a case
involving an Egyptian woman who could not speak Greek,
that she should be asked her choice in a long and drawn
out legal wrangle between her and her father. This shows
that there were certainly some Egyptians who remained
unable to speak the language.
